Tiny houses seem like a dream–they are fun to think about but we shouldn’t actually look into it seriously…right? Wrong. There are many beneficial factors to living in tiny houses but I am only going to highlight my favorite three.
- Less is More
There is one very crucial characteristic of tiny houses–they are tiny. Tiny houses are usually less than 500 square feet and are typically not the size of a house that people dream of having. Before you start thinking about how more space is better, think about how much space you currently use in your living area. Minimalism: A Documentary About The Important Things begins to discuss benefits of living in smaller spaces. It discusses how one study showed that in an average home, people use about 40% of that space. Tiny houses are in fact tiny, but they allow us to utilize every available space in our home.
- Portable Living
Tiny houses are more often than not built on trailers allowing tiny houses to be portable. This can make life extremely easy. Even if you are not on-the-go or moving often, you can park your tiny house anywhere and have the option to move it if needed. For others who move often, tiny houses allow people to save the hassle of packing everything up and finding a new place to live entirely. The portable aspect of tiny houses allow owners to have a sense of freedom while also providing a stable home.
- Dream House
Most tiny houses are custom built. One of my favorite qualities of tiny houses is the creativity and the variability in each tiny house design. If you desire to live in a tiny house but don’t want to give up your book collection, you don’t have to! If you want to live in a tiny house but love a spacious and luxurious kitchen, you can have that too! Living in a smaller space does not mean that you have to give up your dream home. In fact, living in a small space will encourage you to be creative and determined to make house goals become a reality.
There are a lot of different tiny houses in the world and most are uniquely designed to cater towards the owner of the house. What will your tiny house look like?
